Optimised strawberry production for Connings in New Zealand
Connings, a well-known strawberry grower in the Nelson region of New Zealand, invested in a new protected cropping facility to further improve fruit quality and production reliability. In close cooperation with our partner Irribiz we designed and realised a complete growing system.
Producing premium strawberries consistently requires full control over both climate and irrigation. The system includes over 7,300 metres of GM-18 growing gutters, combined with an integrated irrigation solution. The gutters were roll-formed on-site in continuous lengths, minimising connections and ensuring reliable drainage throughout the system.
Pre-assembled dripper lines were incorporated to enable fast installation and to deliver uniform irrigation to every plant.
Strong results from the first harvest
The first crop was harvested in October 2025. The combination of protected cultivation and a well-designed growing system is already delivering strong results:
- Large, uniform strawberries
- Deep red colour and firm fruit quality
- Reduced impact of weather conditions
- Consistent irrigation and drainage performance
A strong partnership in practice
This project highlights the added value of combining advanced greenhouse technology with tailored growing systems. In close cooperation with Irribiz, Meteor Systems delivered a solution that integrates seamlessly with the greenhouse structure and supports reliable, high-quality production.
